Saline County was in a county seat fight. Wilber had been voted the county seat but could not get bonds voted for a courthouse, and Crete had hopes of winning out. Over 50 years later the towns finally got together, and Wilber got its new courthouse.

The population of Jefferson County was found by assessors to be 4,078, a increase of 312 from the previous year.
Construction progressed on the new addition to the Farmers Co-Op elevator in Jansen.

Jim and Carol Barber are celebrating their 70th anniversary on March 25 with family and friends.
They were married on Easter Sunday but they have never had it in all the years.
Their children are Pam and John Jones of Wisconsin, Terry and Annette Barber, Kevin and Lori, Kent and Jennipher Barber of Fairbury, 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

R. E. McDonnell, Kansas City Engineer, said after inspecting the privately-owned Fairbury electric power plant that it was out-of-date and its usefulness was nearly over. Local people had suggested that the city acquire the electric and water systems.

1990
After almost 20 years of transmitting telephone calls, the microwave tower atop the Lincoln Telephone office was taken down. The 75-foot tower was erected in 1970 and transmitted signals to the tower near Gladstone, where the signal continued to Clatonia and on to Lincoln. The tower was disconnected two years prior due to the installation of fiber optic lines.
Jefferson County Commissioner Mark Schoenrock was recently appointed to the Nebraska Association of County Officials (NACO) Board of Directors serving as the Southeast Region Director.
NACO was organized in 1894 and formally incorporated in 1968. It is composed of 93 member counties.

80 units of blood were collected at the Red Cross Bloodmobile held Tuesday, January 12, at the Fairbury Elks Club. There were eight first-time donors and eight Power Red donors. Four blood donors achieved milestone donations. LaMoyne Hardenburger has donated 18 gallons, Ken Nance has donated 20 gallons, Jan Nance has donated 14 gallons and Lois Kroeker has donated 10 gallons.
