Doyle D. Wood, 55 of Jansen, NE passed away April 20, 2015 at his home. He was born December 3, 1959 in Sioux City, IA.
Survivors are his wife Virginia, and son Daniel (Kassie) Wood of North Sioux City, SD, and son David Wood of Sioux City, IA .
Services will be Friday April 24, 2015 at 10:30 at the First Baptist Church in Fairbury, NE with Pastor Joel Hahn officiating. Cremation has taken place. Burial will be at a later date.

Beverly Jean Babel 75 of Fairbury, NE passed away April 16, 2015 in Fairbury. She was born September 29, 1939 in Youngstown, Ohio. Vehicle Accident at Highway 103 and 136

On April 18th,  Jefferson County Communications received a 911 call of a two vehicle injury accident at the intersection of Highway 103 and 136. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene.

Vehicle #1 was a 1998 Buick Park Avenue driven by Tobias Fritzen 98 yoa from Diller, NE. Vehicle #2 was a 1998 Jeep pickup driven by Duane Bleich 45 yoa of Waverly, Ne.

Death penalty repeal, student minimum wage debated, advanced in legislature

LINCOLN--The Legislature continued to chug along the week of April 13, passing and stalling multiple pieces of legislation.

The death penalty, legislative term limits and minimum wage for minors were just a few topics of discussion this week.

After hearty debate, the proposed repeal of the death penalty, LB 268 advanced on April 16. LB 268 would replace the death penalty with a sentence of life in prison without parole.

Signature Bricks Available for Homestead Themed Brick Mural

Several bricks are available for purchase through Beatrice Area Chamber of Commerce on the homesteading themed brick mural on 5th Street, about a half of a block north of Court Street.

One side of the brick mural features a carved scene depicting life on an early homestead and the second side depicts early Beatrice history.
