It only takes a second for the life of a person to change.
The U.S. Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s Omaha Area Office has confirmed it has started an investigation into an incident at Westin Packaged Meats on June 9.
Last Thursday at approximately 11:05 p.m. a 54-year-old man suffered severe head trauma after he fell while accessing the roof of the bacon plant owned and operated by Westin Packaged Meats in Fairbury.
The name of the employee has not been released. There were no witnesses to the incident and he was last seen with a work light climbing a ladder.
The worker was climbing the ladder in an effort to access the roof and clean roof vents, according to initial OSHA reports. The cleaning of the roof vents are routine weekly maintenance at the facility and are done between two to three times each week.
