Historic Building To Be Torn Down In Endicott

ENDICOTT HISTORIC BUILDING--Uncle Billy Smith’s Cabin will be torn down due to being beyond repair and will soon to be replaced by a play house in the Endicott park. The new construction can be seen in the foreground.(Photo by Susan Bartels/Fairbury Journal-News)

At the June 13, 2016 meeting of the Village Board of Endicott, it was decided to tear down Uncle Billy Smith’s Cabin. The cabin currently resides in the park area on the west side of Main Street. According to Chairperson Christine Zabokrtsky, the cabin is no longer safe. Many of the logs are rotten and local children are known to climb onto the roof to play. The cost to restore the cabin would be prohibitive.
“It's going to cost a fortune to restore that thing. So we are just not going to mess with that.” Zabokrtsky said, adding, “We are trying to refurbish our little park there.” To that end, the Village is building a new play house in the cabin's stead. Construction on that has already begun.

Mission Accomplished

Dreams do come true, just ask the Cleveland Cavaliers and LeBron James.
After leaving his home town team, Cleveland, to play four years in Miami for the Heat, earning the team back-to-back NBA Championships, James returned back to Cleveland two years ago. He promised he would deliver a championship to the city that hasn't had a champion since the Cleveland Browns won the NFL Championship in 1964.
Sunday evening that dream came true, as the Cleveland Cavaliers, in a winner-take-all game 7, rallied late to defeat the defending NBA Champions, Golden State Warriors, 93-89 on the Warriors home court at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, Calif.
The Cavaliers are the first team in the NBA finals to comeback from a 3-1 deficit to win the title.
