Mary Lou Sellenrick

Mary Lou Drexler Sellenrick, 91, of Fairbury/Plymouth area died on August 31, 2015 at Bryan East Hospital, Lincoln, NE.  Mary resided at the Kensington, Beatrice, NE prior to her death.
Survivors include son Douglas Sellenrick and wife Sharon of Plymouth, brother Freddie Drexler and wife Ruth of Fairbury,  3 Grandchildren Jonathan D. Sellenrick and wife Anne Marie of Bloomington, IL, Jacilyn A. Sellenrick and special friend Mike Lee of Alexandria, VA, and Shannon Skrivanek of Washington State, 2 Great-Grandchildren Harrison and Cason Sellenrick of Bloomington, IL, and several nieces and nephews. 
Private Family services will be held Saturday, September 5, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, rural Plymouth, NE with Pastor Marilyn Hasemann. Interment will be in the Peace Lutheran Cemetery, rural Plymouth, Nebraska.  Memorials will go to the Family’s Choice. Gerdes-Meyer Funeral in Fairbury is in charge of arrangements.

Robert Leonard

Robert E. Leonard, 77 of Reynolds, NE passed away August 28, 2015 at his home.  He was born July 27, 1938 at Brighton, CO. 
Survivors are wife Judy of Reynolds, son Earl (Debbie) Leonard of Reynolds, daughter Julie (Barton) Oestreich of Llano, TX, 5 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, and sister Rose (Bob) Bartels of Sturgis, SD.
Services will be Friday, September 4, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Fairbury with Pastor Joel Hahn officiating.  Burial will be in Mahaska Cemetery, Mahaska, KS. Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home in Fairbury is in charge of arrangements.

Marion Cacek

Marion J. Cacek 80 of Odell, NE. passed away August 30, 2015. He was born August 17, 1935 at Odell. He was in the Army National Guard. Survivors are Wife: Miriam Cacek of Odell, Daughter: Ruth (David) Pipes of Odell, Grandson: William Pipes. Services will be at 2:00 pm Thursday September 3, 2015 at Vance-Gerdes Funeral Home in Odell. Burial at the Odell Czech Cemetery-Odell, NE. Memorials to the Odell Fire & Rescue & Diller-Odell Public Schools. Vance-Gerdes Funeral Home in Odell are in charge of arrangements.

BRANDT REUNION
The second Brandt family reunion was conducted on August 2, 2015 at St. Paul’s Lutheran  School in Plymouth, Nebraska. Approximately 70 descendants of William and Wilhelmine ( Niemeier) Brandt were in attendance. Family members representing each of their three children; Edwin and Meta (Meyer) Brandt, Hulda (Brandt) and Marten Scherling, and Hertha (Brandt) and William Neimeyer. 
 
 
ZABEL REUNION
Fifty-eight descendants of Christian F. Zabel, Sr. and his wife Hanne attended the Zabel reunion on August 9 at the Cotner Center in Lincoln. Those in attendance were Sarah and Fred Zabel of Lincoln, Oliver Kottas of Lincoln, Cheryl Zabel, of Rockport, MO, Becky and Dennis Zabel, of Daykin, and Linda Zabel, of Lincoln, John and Marsha Zabel of Peoria, AZ. The next Zabel reunion will be August 13, 2017.

For a good cause


Grant Heidemann, left, and father Mitch stopped in at Runza for lunch on Tuesday, Aug. 25, to help support the Fairbury Public Library during the annual fund-raiser sponsored by Runza. Periodically, the local restaurant donates a portion of proceeds through a day or time period to a charity or cause. On this occasion the recipient was the library. Club News

United Methodist Women met August 20, at 7 pm in the Methodist Church Parlor. Vice-President, Sheri Hinman called the meeting to order with 14 members present. Ortrude Snyder gave the devotion. Marilyn Snyder read the minutes of the July meeting. Treasurer's report was given by Marilyn Wrigley. Arlene Kellogg introduced Valerie Snyder, our guest speaker. Valerie told the group about "The Middle Paws" which works with various needy animals and organized groups designed to help animals. Hostesses were Carol Barber and Marilyn Wrigley. Our next meting is to be September 17 at 2.
