Narka News

Melvin and Estel Edwards, Jim and Kelley Edwards, Trudy Beam, Donna Svoboda, and Betty Edwards of Narka and Tim and Peggy Galloway of Mahaska enjoyed an evening out on Sat. with supper and a show at Mayberrys in Washington. The music was "The Homestead Pickers" from Branson, MO. They treated the crowd to some wonderful old mountain and country gospel music.

Waldron D. Fritz

Waldron D. Fritz, 93 of Fairbury, NE., passed away February 19, 2015 at the Heritage Care Center in Fairbury. He was born December 28, 1921 at Silver Lake, KS. He was a WWII Marine Veteran. Survivors are daughter, Barbara Schmidt and husband, Dwight of Fairbury; sons, Monroe Fritz and wife, Sandy of Bloomington, IN.; Robert Fritz and wife, Gayle of Dallas, TX.; 8 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday February 23, 2015 at the First Baptist Church Chapel in Fairbury, with Darlene Novotny officiating. Cremation has taken place. Burial at a later date. Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home in Fairbury are in charge of arrangements.

Mildred M. Zimmer

Mildred M. Zimmer, 75 of Fairbury, died February 19, 2015 at Heritage Care Center in Fairbury. She was born, September 6, 1939 in Decker, Ind.

Survivors are sons, Harold (Shelly) Zimmer; and John Zimmer all of Fairbury; daughters, Lori Miller of NC; Shari (Donnie) Withers of Des Moines, IA; 9 grandchildren and 5 Great-grandchildren, sisters, Lois (Randy) Zieman of Western, NE; June Troxel of Fairbury; brothers, Bill Cordry of Fairbury; Butch (Sheila) Cordry of Beatrice, NE; sister-in-laws, Bonnie (Doug) Preston of Jansen, NE; Bev Cordry of Blue Springs, NE; and many beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces & nephews and other extended family.

Tri County Legion Baseball Fundraiser

A soup dinner fund-raiser will be held for the Tri County Legion baseball teams.
The event will be held Sunday March 8 at the Plymouth Community Center from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
Menu includes chili and chicken noodle soup, ham sandwiches, and pie.
All proceeds will be used for operation and construction costs of (Cody Park-Legion Field) located a half mile north of Tri County Public Schools.

Fairbury Loses Pair Of Conference Games

Fairbury’s Lady Jeffs and Jeffs basketball teams conldn’t keep up its momentum from last Saturday’s doubleheader sweep against Schuyler.
As a result, both squads came up on the short end of the scoreboard in a pair of road losses on Feb. 10 against Seward.
In the opener just a few plays here and there spelled the difference in the Lady Jeffs’ 59-54 loss.
Seward got the upperhand on the Lady Jeffs in the first quarter opening a 16-8 lead.
A 19-point second quarter by Fairbury drew the Lady Jeffs within a point, 28-27 at half.
Shelby Pollman led the way for Fairbury pouring in 10 second quarter points.
The third quarter was low scoring, as both teams combined for 16 points leaving the Lady Bluejays holding a 37-34 lead.
Fairbury tallied 20 points in the fourth quarter, but couldn’t quite overtake Seward.

DESTINATION-OMAHA

Saving their best performances of the season for when it counted the most, eleven area wrestlers punched their ticket to this week’s NSAA State Wrestling Tournament at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha.
All eleven grapplers used their god-given talent, determination,, and expertise to reach the big stage at the CenturyLink Center.
Fairbury will have three qualifiers headed to Omaha.
First round matches for Fairbury includes Class B 145-pound sophomore Damian Green (31-12) against Omaha Skutt Catholic’s Bailey Vanderpool (33-6), Class B 160-pound freshman Jacob Johnson (38-3) versus Alliance’s Danny Vallejo (19-12), and Class B 285-pound sophomore Paul Mach (29-13) facing McCook’s Dalton Goodenberger (36-4).
Meridian advanced six wrestlers to the state wrestling tournament.
