Pitch Hit and Run


FAIRBURY OPTIMIST CLUB sponsored this years Pitch, Hit & Run event held at the Fairbury Softball Complex this past Saturday with 25 participants. Winner will proceed to the sectional competition in Lincoln on May 23 for a chance to advance to the Team Championship event in Kansas City and the National Finals during the MLB All-Star Game. 2015 District Woodman Speech Contest

The District Woodman Speech Contest was held on April 8th at The Majestic Theater in downtown Hebron.  This year the students had to present their 3 – 5 minute speech on “an interesting landmark”. Twenty-six participants from Bruning Davenport, Deshler Lutheran, Meridian, Shickley and Thayer Central competed in two divisions  to see who would move on to represent the district in the State Contest to be held in Hebron on May 13th @ 3:00 PM. 
Students moving on to represent the district are: (5th & 6th grade division) Buchannan Tietjen – Thayer Central, Allyson Kort – Meridian, and Taylor Sliva – Shickley. (7th & 8th grade division) Jackie Dimas – Meridian, Josiee Sobotka – Meridian, TaraLee Hudson – Bruning Davenport, and Regan Alfs – Shickley.4

Girls/Boys State

Jakub VanWesten of Daykin, a junior at Meridian Public School, is the son of Jay and Staci VanWesten.  He participates in football, basketball, and Legion baseball.  His hobbies include hunting and spending time with his family.  He attends St. John Lutheran Church in Daykin.  He is sponsored by Daykin Legion Post #198.
 
 
 
Corey Taylor is the son of Steve and Vicky Taylor of Alexandria and is a Junior at Meridian Public School.   Corey is involved in football and track.   He is a member of Drama and FBLA.  His hobbies include camping, watersports, and fishing. Corey attends the Alexandria Presbyterian Church and is sponsored by the Alexandria Legion Post #194.

Boys State

Jack Spilker of Dewitt and Tyler Connelly of Plymouth will be representing American Legion Post #243 of Plymouth at the 2015 Nebraska  Boys State in June. Jack Spilker is a junior at Tri County High school. He is a member of the student Council and also participates in football, wrestling, and FFA. He plans to attend collage after graduation and major in Agronomy or Diversified Ag. Jack is son of Kyle and Betsy Spilker of Dewitt. 
 
 
Tyler Connelly is a junior at Tri County High school. He is a member of the FFA, and involved in band, jazz band, basketball, and Spanish club.  He has been stage manager for the fall play and one act play and also played Legion  baseball for three years.  Tyler is the son of Jeremy and Amanda Connelly of Plymouth.

Schlake and Thorp To Wed in May

Gayle and Marilyn Schlake  of Cortland announce the engagement of their daughter Nichole Schlake of Cortland to Ethan Thorp of Steele City, son of Randy and Becky Saathoff  of Diller and Bill Thorp of Rich Hill MO.
Nichole is a graduate of Beatrice, UNL and UNMC. She is currently a Physical Therapist.
Ethan is a graduate of Diller-Odell and UNL, he is a farmer and Pioneer Seed Sales Representative.
Their wedding date is set for May.    6p

Elting and Schultz To Wed in September

Kerwin and Patty Elting of Davenport would like to announce the engagement of their daughter Theresa of Platte City, MO to Clark Schultz of Omaha, son of Don and Deb Schultz of Shickley.
 Grandparents of the couple are Raymond and Rae Jean Zauha of Omaha, Betty Bohling of Fairbury.
Theresa is  a 2008 graduate of Bruning-Davenport USD High School. She is currently working as a Registered Nurse for Crossroad’s Hospice, in Kansas City, Missouri.
Clark is a 2007 graduate of Shickley High School. He is currently employed as a Quality Control Product Specialist at Streck Clinical Laboratories, in Omaha, Nebraska.
A September 12th, 2015, wedding is planned to be held at the bride’s parents’ home, near Oak, Nebraska. The couple plans to reside in Platte City, Missouri.   6p

Theye And Schluter To Wed In July

Daylon and Kay Theye of Odell would like to announce the engagement of their daughter Jamie Theye to Chris Schluter of Diller, the son of David and Dawn Schluter of Friend. They will be married in July at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Odell.
Jamie is a Diller-Odell 2009 graduate, she attended SCC in Beatrice and Peru State College and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Business, Marketing, and Information Technology Field Endorsement (6-12.) She is currently employed at Wymore Southern Public Schools.
Chris is a 2006 graduate of Friend School. He attended Midland University and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Health & Physical Education (K-12). He is currently employed at Diller-Odell Public Schools.    6p
