the tickets are one dollar per ticket and the first place winner will get an Arien’s 21 inch mower. Second place will be a decorative headstone flower vase and 3rd place will be an engraving on the donor memorial wall at the entrance to the cemetery. Heading into Monday’s B-3 Golf District Meet held on the Southern Hills Golf Course in Hastings seven or eight teams had the opportunity to contend for one of three spots to qualify for next week’s Class B NSAA State Golf Championships.
Unfortunately for Fairbury, the Jeffs were left on the outside looking in, as the team finished two lousy strokes out of third place with a team score of 350.
Columbus Scotus won the B-3 District title with a score of 337, York finished second at 347, and Seward was third posting a score of 348.
Fairbury Jeffs golf coach Jed Martin felt bad for his squad just missing out on qualifying for the state golf meet.
“We knew going in that seven or eight teams had a chance to qualify in the 12-team field. The teams that finished second, third, and fourth were within three strokes of each other. Unfortunately our team was on the outside looking in. It was a disappointing day for our team,” said Martin.

District competition at a trio of sites last week was filled with suspense and drama.

Athletes from Diller-Odell, Fairbury, Meridian, and Tri County let their talent shine and earned their spots in the NSAA State Track and Field Championships this Friday and Saturday at Omaha Burke Stadium.
Fairbury: The Jeffs qualified four competitors from last Thursday’s B-3 District track meet held at Concordia Unversity in Seward.
Sophomore Patrick Ondrak was runner-up in the 3200-meter run in a season-best time of 10:21.21.
Fairbury’s 3200-meter relay team of Chris Fisher, Brent Hirsch, Ondrak, and Jacob Johnson placed third and qualified as an additonal qualifier in a time of 8:32.04.
As a team, the Jeffs scored 15 points to place 10th in the district meet which was won by Crete, scoring 93 points.

Fairbury Places Third At Thayer Central

Although they didn’t shoot as well as a team, Fairbury Jeffs golf coach Jed Martin saw some good things from last Wednesday’s Thayer Central Invitational.
“We had some positive things coming out of the invite. Justin Peterson played a nice round and shot 80 to finish fourth individually. Justin really is coming along and playing good golf right now, and that is something good to see,” said Martin.
“Spencer Feldkamp finished 14th overall, which is nice for a senior to go out with a medal in his last invite. Those two guys kind of stood out on how they approached the invite. To come away with a medal in any invite is a good thing,” commented Martin.
“Nick Christiansen who didn’t play very well was sick and was battling some illness. Hopefully we will get him healthy and he will be okay,” stated Martin.
In the 15-team invite, Fairbury finished third with a 349 team score.
