The Nebraska Minimum Wage initiative

The Nebraska Minimum Wage initiative received enough petition signatures to qualify for inclusion on the

ballot for the November 4, 2014, election. If it receives voter approval it will incrementally increase the

minimum wage in Nebraska from the present $7.25 to $8.00 by January 1, 2015, and $9.00 by January 1, 2016.

The issue will be decided by a vote of the people and there are a couple of things to consider before casting

your vote. The following data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics clearly demonstrates that increasing the

minimum wage will not raise people out of poverty or contribute to economic growth.

Only 2.9% of United States workers earn the minimum wage, over half are between the ages of 16 and 24,
