A few more hits found the gaps for the visiting Bruning-Davenport-Shickley squad, and that turned out to be the difference, as BDS dealt Fairbury a 6-3 loss last Tuesday evening (July 5) in Senior American Legion baseball action played at Quinn Field in Fairbury.
Both squad’s starting pitchers Fairbury’s Keyten Pfingsten and BDS’s Riley Tegtmeier were in top form allowing just one hit each in the first two innings.
Fairbury had an opportunity in the bottom of the second to get on the board first.
BDS broke the scoreless tie in the top of the third inning, as with one out Tegtmeier tripled, and he scored on a follow up RBI double off the bat of third baseman Stuart Rohr.
Seven batters came to the plate in the top of the fifth for BDS, and the visitors were able to plate two runs on a pair of RBI hits by Tyler Anderson and Rohr.

This time around the Fairbury Juniors American Legion baseball team couldn’t get the best of Tri County.
Ten days earlier, Fairbury earned a 19-6 win against Tri County played at Cody Park-Legion Field.
Fairbury got off to a quick start in its final home game last Wednesday (July 6) evening, but a strong finish by Tri County allowed the visitors to come away with a 10-5 win in eight innings.
Fairbury American Legion Juniors head baseball coach Steve Zimmerman felt the eighth inning was the turning point in the game.
“Basically if you look at the last inning I don’t know if we got down on ourselves because we let such a big lead slip away. It just seemed some the air went out of the team. You have to give Tri County credit, they were patient and got walks and came through with timely hits,” said Zimmerman.
An unearned run by Tri County in the top of the seventh tied the game at 5.

With the beginning of the football season fast approaching, several publications have started to release their “Watch Lists.” These include games to watch, teams to watch and players to watch. There have been some of each from our coverage area, which should bring a very exciting football season to the region.
Last season we had the duo of Colby Ensz and Jacob Johnson who both ran their way into the records. This season, both of these players return to the Trojans and Jeffs, respectively, and hope to build on last season’s successes and learn from the losses.
