A positive start by the Jeffs went by the wayside, as Fairbury couldn’t match Centennial in the second half in Monday’s 51-34 loss to the Broncos in bunny-bracket play of the C1-4 Subdistrict Boys Basketball Tournament played at Friend High School.
Fairbury started out strong with its shooting connecting on three of its first four three-point baskets to open a 9-2 lead midway through the first quarter.
Centennial finished out the quarter scoring three points at the charity stripe to close the deficit to 9-5.
The Broncos pieced together a 6-0 run in the first two minutes of the second quarter to grab their first lead at 11-9.
One of two free throws by Jesse Hartshorn kept Centennial in front at 12-10.
A trey from Connor Livingston gave Fairbury back a brief, 13-12 lead.
Tanner Barth’s three-point hoop lifted Centennial back on top on its next possession, 15-13.
