Fairbury Woman Faces Drug Charge

Lindsay R. Pingel, age 44, of Fairbury was arraigned in Jefferson County Court on Wednesday, April 24, 2024. Linda Bauer was the presiding judge.Pingel is charged with possession of methamphetamine, a class 4 felony punishable by up to two years in prison, nine to 12 months of post-release supervision and a $10,000 fine, as well as possession of drug paraphernalia, a infraction that carries a $100 fine.On April 3, 2024, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office received a report from Union Pacific Railroad that someone had been seen possible trespassing on railroad tracks.At approximately 1:27 p.m., deputies stop a vehicle that matched the description. Pingel was the driver. A passenger was identified as Jacob Jacobitz. According to the arrest affidavit, Pingel indicated the vehicle had overheated, “and they were waiting for it to cool down.”The affidavit also indicates Pingel admitted there was methamphetamine in her vehicle. A deputy searched the vehicle and, in the glove compartment, “I found a singular clear baggie with a white crystal substance. The contents later had a presumptive positive for methamphetamine.”Lindsay Pingel was arrested and transported to the Jefferson County Jail.Another hearing is scheduled for May 15.The defendant is represented by Public Defender Scott Gropp, who also represents her in another matter.Pingel was accused of threatening Fairbury's Code Enforcement Officer during an inspection. She was originally charged with terroristic threats, a class 3A felony punishable by up to three years in prison and a $10,000 fine.In accordance with the plea agreement, Pingel pleaded No Contest to a reduced charge of assault by threatening or menacing manner, a class 1 misdemeanor, punishable by up to one year in jail and a $1,000 fine.Sentencing is that case is scheduled for May 2, 2024.The defendant remains free on bond in both cases at this time.
