Giving Back to Our Veterans

During the 4-H Style Revue and Talent Show on Monday, July 13, Freddie Drexler received a quilt sewed by participant Sara Huss as a token of appreciation for his service in World War Two.
Huss made the quilt as a part of the Quilts of Valor program, which has volunteers who make quilts to give to veterans. As a member of 4-H, Huss learned about the program and couldn't wait to give back to the people serving this country.
“I learned about the Quilts of Valor through my quilting instructor, Barb Schmidt, a few years ago when we started doing the inter-generational quilts with some of my quilting peers,” said Huss. “I decided this would be something I could do every year that would make me feel good about doing and I could give back to the soldiers.”

Jefferson and Southeast Counties 911 System

Jefferson County Sheriff, Nels Sorensen, discussed plans and information on a new 911 system, with the Jefferson County Commissioners last week.
The system that could be installed in Jefferson County, will be powerful enough to handle 100 answering points at once. “We've been working on this project since July 2013, so this is not a spur of the moment decision,” Sorensen said.
The older system that Jefferson county still uses was installed between 2006 and 2007 and is utilizing equipment and network functions that are outdated. Jefferson County's system is nearly at the end of its useful life.
“No one makes parts for our system anymore, that's why we’re gravitating toward the new system,” Sorensen said.
