Bonham Awarded State Grant

The Bonham Theater Project was awarded a $225,000 grant from the Nebraska Department of Economic Development last week.
As reported by the Journal-News last month, the grant monies would be used to make the facility more accessible to the elderly and people with disabilities, as well as help renovate the plumbing, electrical and restroom systems and address fire protection.
The theater operated from 1926 through 2012 when the then owners closed the doors due to the high cost of transforming to digital movies. To date the BTP has raised more than $550,000 for renovation of the theater.

Merry Moderns Club Tour

The Diller Merry Moderns traveled to Washington, KS on Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2014 for a fall tour. Marcon Pies was our first stop. We observed the making of gooseberry pies from forming the crust to a “ready to eat” pie. Each of us received a piece of pie that we enjoyed with a cup of coffee at a nearby quick shop.
We traveled to Barnes, KS for lunch at our Daily Bread followed by visiting several small shops in town. The afternoon was spent back at Washington touring KSDS Inc. Assistance Dogs. We visited the kennel facility and watched three of the service dogs at work. KSDS trains dogs used as guide dogs, service dogs and facility dogs.
