Good morning.  It is wonderful to be home in Nebraska on this glorious Memorial Day 2015.  I would like to say thank you to the veterans here with me today, to the Fairbury VFW and American Legion, to Kenneth Dodge, Jefferson County Veterans Service Officer, all who make this ceremony  possible,  and to each of you for coming out today.  It is important that we gather together on this special day.

I Think My Mind Is Going

I’m a little concerned about my inability to remember things. Especially since it hasn’t always been that way.
When I was in high school, people would always be amazed that I could remember things.
“An elephant never forgets,” I would quote. In hindsight that was a rather strange thing to say, but my point was that I had a good memory.
Somewhere in the last 10 years that has changed. And I think it’s getting worse.
I think I remember things on my to-do list, such as what I’m supposed to be doing at work today. I say I think because I may have forgotten.
But once things are in the past I have a terrible time recalling them.
I cannot remember when I made the leftovers that are in the fridge. Was it two days ago? Was it two weeks ago?
I can’t even remember what stories I wrote last week. People say names, and I’m still clueless.
