Tamatha Schwisow

Tamatha Schwisow, 50 of Hastings, NE, died March 4, 2015 in Hastings. She was born February 16, 1965 to Edward Hansen and Nancy McGee at Iowa City, IA.
She is survived by two daughters Katie Davis, and Savannah (Julean) Juarez, granddaughter Jessica, mother Nancy McGee, step-father Elroy Schwisow, brother Kevin Schwisow, sister Shana (Sean) Meyer and their children Chris, Josh, Caleb, Kayleen & Jayce Meyer, step-children Jimmy, Cloe, Jennifer and Stormy Montes.
A Memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday March 14, 2015 at First Baptist Church in Fairbury with Pastor Joel Hahn officiating. Burial of cremains will be at a later date. Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Art Guild

Jefferson County Art Guild met Feb. 23 at The Studio. Eleven members answered roll call, telling an art technique they would like to learn.
Three guild members attended the texture in clay workshop on Saturday at the Stagecoach Mall.
Next month’s meeting will be at the Studio on Mar. 23 at 7 p.m. The original artwork challenge for March will be wind effects (Kites, balloons, windmills, etc.)
The Studio will be open on Mar. 6 for Fairbury’s First Friday Artwalk. Our quest artist will be Taylor Miller.

One Year Older - Schwartz

Ryder Davidson Schwartz celebrated his first birthday at his house on November 21, 2014.
He is the son of Jeremiah & Brittney Schwartz.
Guests included grandparents Terry & Leann Blas, Rick & Connie Schwartz, great-grandparents Janice Olberding, Bill & Carol Blas, Joan Godfrey, aunt Harlie Blas & uncle Trayce Blas, aunt & uncle Reuben & Jessica Mitchell, many great aunts and cousins.
Ryder opened many gifts from John Deere tractor to a big car, he also got many outfits and toys. He ended his special day with a cake that was a monkey just his size.

William Keith Jacobs

William Keith Jacobs, 98, Lincoln, died February 26, 2015 at Eastmont Towers. Born April 10, 1916 on the family farm near Daykin, NE to Edwin and Lydia (Schilke) Jacobs. Graduate of Fairbury HS and Nebraska Wesleyan University. He had a long career in farming and feeding cattle. In 1941 married Gretchen Kelly in Vancouver, WA. They were married 68 years before Gretchen died in 2009. Upon retirement in 1977 they moved to Lincoln, NE. He enjoyed traveling, taking care of his yard, watching all sports, the stock market, and collecting coins. He was active in the Lutheran Church.
Keith is survived by his daughter, Jan and husband, Bob Sibal; nephews, Stephen, Robert, Douglas, Richard, and Gregory Johnson; nieces, Mary Johnson Meyer, Donna Hall, Patsy Peeler; and great granddaughter, Shelby Sibal. Also survived by numerous other relatives.
He was preceded in death by parents; wife; sister, Ruth and husband, Henry Johnson; grandson, Gregory Sibal; and son, John Edwin.

Sharp-Shooting Lady Crusaders End Lady Jeffs’ Season

Fairbury’s Lady Jeffs basketball season came to a close due in part to a hot-shooting Lincoln Christian squad at last Friday’s C1-2 District Final played at the Haddix Recreation and Athletic Center on the campus of Doane College in Crete.
The Lady Crusaders (22-4) seized control right from the tip-off and sailed by the Lady Jeffs, 57-35.
Lincoln Christian vaulted out to a quick 8-0 lead spearheaded by eight straight points from sophomore Ashlyn Power, including a pair of treys.
Fairbury got on the board with 4:47 left in the opening quarter off a two-point field goal from Sidney Pollman.
A 7-4 scoring spree by Fairbury brought the Lady Jeffs within six points at 15-9 with 1:10 remaining in the first quarter.
The Lady Crusaders finished out the quarter on a 6-0 run behind the scoring of Power, Elizabeth Nunnally, and Taytem Coleman expanding their lead to 22-9.
