Misapplying Media Credentials

In the next few days as the calendar turns to August it is that time of the year where the working media needs to apply for their new media credentials for 2016-2017 school year.
As the media we are all professionals who have jobs to do in a short and timely fashion.
Ninety-nine percent of the media that cover high school sports and activities truly abide by a code of professionalism, however, there is a one percent that thinks with a media credential in hand they can bend the rules in their favor.
In the past several years, I have seen at local, district, and state events individuals that don’t either display or have the proper media credentials to be on a diamond, sideline, baseline, court side, or at the finish line.
It just amazes me that school activities administrators, don’t take the time to check to see who are legitimate media covering their school’s sporting events.

Not Ready To Play

It was not the way to end the regular season of play.
The Fairbury Seniors American Legion baseball team sputtered on offense and were not sharp in the field which led the squad to drop its home finale, 10-4 last Tuesday evening versus Pleasant Dale.
After holding Pleasant Dale scoreless in the top of the third, Fairbury erased the zero off the scoreboard plating a run off a two-out walk to Blake Bauer with the bases loaded scoring Marshall York who reached base on a walk three batters prior.
Cayman DeBoer’s one-out RBI triple scored Patrick Ondrak who had lead off the bottom of the sixth with a walk for Fairbury’s final run.
“This was a game to give us game like situations heading into our district tournament,”replied Fairbury Seniors American Legion head baseball coach Bob Hinrichs.

Is this Real?

Last week I received a notice from my personal Twitter account. It was from the official Miller Lite Twitter account. They replied to a Tweet I had sent out back in April while I was apparently watching Bellator MMA.
After responding to the message, they said they had a ticket package to offer me for last Friday’s event in Mulvane, Kansas.  After talking it over with my Ginny, we decided to go. It was a bit of a drive, but it ended up being well worth it.
I had been to a handful of live MMA events before, but this was Ginny’s first. The night did not disappoint.  There were decisions, submissions and KO’s, and tons of action in between.  Our seats were right by where the fighters would exit and head back to the locker room, so we were right in on the action.
