Third Quarter Dooms Tri County In Subdistrict Loss

A cold third quarter of shooting proved too costly for Tri County to overcome in its 45-32 first round loss to Sutton Feb. 24 in the C2-3 Subdistrict Boys Basketball Tournament held at Fairbury Jr.-Sr. High School.
This was the second time this season that Tri County and Sutton faced each other on the hardwood with the Mustangs defeating the Trojans Jan. 17 by a score of 46-31.
Sutton entered the subdistrict game as the top seed with Tri County the fourth seed.
Tri County got off to a strong start as the team played with an abundance of energy vaulting out to a 10-5 lead after the first quarter.
Keldon Barr led the way for the Trojans scoring six of the squad’s 10 points.
In the second quarter, Sutton picked up its intensity on both sides of the ball holding Tri County to just five points scored, while the Mustangs’ offense awoke chalking up 15 points to walk off the court at half with a 20-15 lead.

Knights Win Thriller Over Diller-Odell

DILLER-ODELL SENIOR STETSON MEYER, No. 42, leaps high to release a shot in the lane over the outstretched hand of 6’8” Lourdes Central Catholic’s Noah Vasa, No. 22, during action in last Thursday’s D1-1 District Final played at Southern High School. Sometimes the ball bounces your way, and other times the ball doesn’t.
That was the case, as Diller-Odell hung tough with a tall Lourdes Central Catholic squad last Thursday night, but were unable to hit on several shot attempts in the closing minute and suffered a heart-breaking, 33-32 loss in the D1-1 Subdistrict Boys Basketball Tournament final held at Southern High School.
Top seed Lourdes Central Catholic shot out to a quick 6-2 lead behind the three-point shooting of 6’8” Noah Vasa and Hayden Miller.
Second seed Diller-Odell fought back outscoring the Knights, 6-2 to forge an 8-all tie after one quarter.
The Knights got the upperhand in the second quarter outscoring the Griffins, 15-4 to open a 23-12 lead at half.
Sparked by the scoring of Austin Vitosh, Bladen Ahl, Ely Hroch, and Christian McCown, Diller-Odell rallied to cut the Knights’ lead to 32-16 after three quarters of play.
