FJN Is Second Largest Circulated Weekly

Readership and circulation for The Fairbury Journal-News continues to increase.
For 2015 the Fairbury-based newspaper has become the second largest non-daily newspaper in the state of Nebraska.
Audited figures from the Nebraska Press Association place weekly readership of the Journal-News at 8,835. Only the Ogallala Keith County News has a higher weekly readership in Nebraska.
Last year the Journal-news was ranked number three for non-daily readership statewide.

Fairbury Native Retires As Winningest Pius X Coach

Jerry (Jakle) Moore, a 1980 graduate of Fairbury High School announced on Monday that he would be stepping down as head coach for the Pius X volleyball team in Lincoln.
Since taking over the Pius program in 1990 Moore has guided the Thunderbolts to seven state volleyball championships, including a record 20 consecutive state tournament appearances. His overall coaching record is 705-232, including four seasons as coach at Fairmont.
Moore was named the Lincoln Journal-Star girls' prep coach of the year in 1998 and 2012. he was also selected as national high school coach of the year in 2008 by PrepVolleyball.com and was a finalist for national coach of the year in 2014.
In an interview this week with the Lincoln Journal Star he said, "I thought I would be here for two years, then moving on into some kind of position in (college) sports information." Moore said he would be staying on at Pius X as business teacher and assistant athletic director.

Mason William Wayne Scott Howe

Mason William Wayne Scott Howe, 9 weeks of age, of Beatrice, passed away Saturday, March 14, 2015 at Beatrice Community Hospital in Beatrice. He was born in Beatrice on January 8, 2015 to Dakota Mason and Zachary Howe. Mason is survived by his parents; sister, Emma Peters; grandmother, Kathy Mason; grandfather, Jeff Roland and wife Brenda, both of Fairbury; grandmother, Rebecca Howe of Beaufort, North Carolina; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Narka News

Doug and Kitty Edwards and Roger Stephens celebrated their birthdays Saturday night with a party up town Narka. Almost a hundred friends and family turned out for the big celebration of food and fun. Doug turned the Big 50 on the 10th with Kitty & Roger's birthdays on the 11th.

Weekend guests of Doug & Kitty Edwards and Grandpa Melvin & Grandma Estel were Harley Edwards, Justin and Levi Harrison from Lincoln, KS. They came to help celebrate birthdays.

Draven Johnson was the guest of honor at a birthday party at the park in Belleville on Sunday Mar. 15 hosted by parents Jeff & Ashley Johnson and sister Makenna. Family and friends gathered as he blew out 5 candles on an icecream cake decorated with the Minecrast game theme. Along with gifts and enjoying the cake the kids took advantage of the beautiful weather to play on the park play equipment .
