Tri County Honors Night Recognizes Academic Achievements

The annual Tri County Honors Night was held Tuesday evening, May 12th. Serving as emcees for the evening were junior National Honor Society members Cheyenne Gerlach and Josie Weise.  Students in grades 7-12 were presented awards  for outstanding achievement in numerous curricular areas. 
The following students received recognition:  Tri County Education Foundation (presented by Mr. Randy Schlueter) - Senior representatives Cody McCain and Elsie Hermsmeier.
Physical Education (presented by Mr. Cory Jensen) - Fitness Awards: Cassidy Kowalski, Krayten Uher and Bailey Waltke (7th grade); Janisa Gronenthal and Creighton Niemeyer (8th grade); Weightlifter of the Year: Jacob Hutchinson.
Spanish (presented by Mrs. Missy Sand) - Spanish I: Cooper Smith; Spanish II: Shianne Bryant and Reagan Schultis; Spanish III: Jessica Goodwin; Spanish IV: Riley Ensz.

Ralph and Martha (Heuermann) Knobel will celebrate their 60th anniversary on June 12.  They were married at the University Lutheran Chapel, Lincoln, Nebraska on June 12, 1955.

Robert Brown

Robert “Bob” Brown, Sr. 81 of Western, NE, passed away May 20, 2015 at Jefferson Community Health Center in Fairbury. He was born July 14, 1933 at Western, NE. He was an Air Force Veteran. Survivors are wife of 62 years: Janet Brown, children: Bob Brown & wife Mari, Sheri George & husband Ted, Jeff Brown & wife Kay, 10 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, sister: Nancy Knobel. Cremation has taken place. No services are planned at this time. Meyer Funeral Home in Western is in charge of arrangements.

Coop gives money to BVCA


To help fight hunger, local Farmers Cooperative is providing support to local food banks. The Farmers Cooperative donated $4,500 to the Blue Valley Community Action and then teamed up with Land O’Lakes, and the “Invest an Acre Program” to provide a total of $13,500 in support to Blue Valley Community Action. These funds will support Food Pantry’s in Jefferson, Saline, Seward, York, and Fillmore Counties.
