For the fifth year, the students at Fairbury Central Elementary and Jefferson Intermediate schools have participated in the Valentines for Veterans project. They valentines they created will be shared with veterans at the VA Hospital in Omaha and the Veterans Homes in Grand Island and Bellevue.
The program in this area is coordinated by Marky Miller of Hebron, who felt this was a good way to give back to people who gave so much, as well as presenting a valuable opportunity for the students to do a fun community service project.
Fairbury students were joined by students from Hebron, Bruning-Davenport, Deshler, Diller, Geneva, Meridian and Superior. More than 1300 valentines were created by the students and will be hand delivered to the veteran facilities noted above.
