Will Candidate Apathy Carry Over Into Elected Office?

The elections are over and I think we’re all glad for that. By all accounts it was an interesting campaign and a lot of information was distributed. Unless of course you happened to be a candidate for every office in Jefferson County. The flow of information was...zero.
It is always disheartening to see a slate of candidates (pick any from the Jefferson County courthouse), (most seeking a District 8 school board seat), and (all of them running for Fairbury city council) who want to be elected but don’t care enough to tell people anything about themselves or what they stand for.
Were each of them new candidates seeking a position? Or were they incumbents trying to retain a seat? The voter had absolutely no way of knowing.
To be fair, nearly all of the races, except that of District 8 school board, saw a slate of candidates that were running unopposed; there was no one else to vote for except the name on the ballot.
