Senator Laura Ebke of Crete was among 33 select lawmakers chosen to participate in a training program that annually identifies and assists promising state leaders in the Midwest.
Sen. Ebke will meet with fellow lawmakers from Nebraska and 10 other Midwestern states and four Canadian provinces on August 12-16 in Madison, Wis., for The Council of State Governments’ 22nd annual Bowhay Institute for Legislative Leadership Development (BILLD).

Fairbury High School Athletic Director Nicholas Kroon told the Fairbury Journal-News this morning that the search for a new head boys basketball coach has already started and the district has, “a couple of hot leads right now.”
It was announced this morning through multiple media outlets, including the Fairbury Journal-News that FHS head boys basketball coach Adam Brill, a former Lincoln Pius X assistant, will be leaving the district to coach at Norris next year.
“Our goal would be to find a suitable replacement ASAP especially with summer activities right around the corner,” Kroon said, noting that summer basketball activities will go forward as planned.
“As of now all summer things will go on as scheduled. Changes could happen with a new hire though.”
Kroon explained that, although only here for a season, Brill made a lasting impact on the basketball program for the Jeffs.

At approximately 1004 the 4th day of May 2016, Jefferson County Communications received a call of a serious accident just south of the Jefferson Saline County line on Highway 15. The report was of a tractor trailer in the ditch and the driver was ejected from the vehicle.
Emergency services responded to the site and upon arrival a tractor trailer rig was in the ditch which had rolled and the trailer which was loaded with liquid fertilizer was on its side. The driver of the vehicle was out of the vehicle and was attended to by EMS personnel. The semi-tractor was on its wheels and facing south. The trailer was on its left side and facing north. Both units had rolled at least once. The trailer was intact and was not leaking any of its contents.

Our Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, Eutha G. Landis passed away quietly at North Shore Nursing Home in Loveland, CO. on April 21, 2016. Eutha was born December 26, 1921 to A.J. and Hazel Hixon in Girard, Kan.
She married Roy Landis on Aug. 23, 1942 in Wichita, Kansas. After World War II, they had four sons and two daughters all born in Fairbury, Nebraska.
Eutha followed her husband, Roy, around the country racing thoroughbred horses. They moved to Grand Island in 1970.
Roy passed away March 1982. Eutha moved to Loveland, Colo. in 1986 to be near her two sisters and family. She loved yardwork, crocheting, camping and family get-togethers. Schools attended were Elementary, Jr/Sr. High School in Humboldt, KS and two year Junior College in Iola, Kan., and there she received he Teacher's Certificate. She taught school one year before she got married. She worked at Cessna in Wichita where she met Roy.

Beginning at 5 p.m., art walk attendees will enjoy an African-themed international art show and sale at the Old Library Gallery, located inside Big Bamboo Studios at 520 5th Street.
Across the street at the Jefferson County Art Guild, Fairbury artist, Lois Welch, will be demonstrating a marbelizing technique on terra cotta pots at 6:30 p.m., followed by a flower arrangement demonstration to complete the pot by guild member, Lacey Schoenbeck.
