Fairbury’s wrestlers on the biggest stage of the season showcased their talents last weekend at the NSAA State Wrestling Championships held at Omaha’s CenturyLink Center.
Even though Fairbury sent just three wrestlers to the state tournament, two of those competitors brought home state medals.
Sophomore Damian Green (33-15) placed sixth in the Class B 145-pound weight class with a mark of 2-3.
Green earned a forfeit in his first round match on Thursday over Omaha Skutt’s Bailey Vanderpool.
In his quarterfinal match, Green won by decision, 6-5 over Plattsmouth’s Kole Gray.
Friday evening, Green lost in semifinal action by fall in 1:51 to Columbus Scotus’s Alec Foltz.
Saturday morning, Green lost in the consolation semifinals by fall in 1:47 to Grand Island Northwest’s Karson Sok.
Green faced Kole Gray of Plattsmouth in the fifth place match and lost by decision, 3-1.
