LB453, introduced by Sen. Robert Hilkeman of Omaha, would allow for a refund of fees and taxes for vehicle registrations of unexpired months if someone sold a car with current and valid registration.

Senators react to State of the State address

LINCOLN--Senators commented on Gov. Pete Ricketts' State of the State address on Jan. 22 after hearing the new governor's plans to grow Nebraska.

Though the speech only outlined a snippet of the governor's plans, senators seem hopeful for the session and eager to hear more specifics.  

"I was encouraged for the most part," Sen. Tanya Cook of Omaha said.

Public, senators talk guns in hearing

Sen. Ernie Chambers' blood pressure might have been higher than usual Thursday afternoon.

During the three hours of public hearings at the State Capitol, the Judiciary Committee of the Nebraska Legislature heard and discussed four bills about allowing or not allowing firearms in some fashion.

Chambers--an Omahan and outspoken opponent of guns for recreational and other purposes--dominated the conversation about each bill on the committee side of the room.  

The most heated and time consuming discussion focused on LB184 and LB60.
