Feb. 18: Report of an open door in the 1000 block of H Street.
Feb. 18: Report of threats in the 200 block of I Street.
Feb. 19: Eugene E. Krajnik, of Wilber, was parking a 2005 Dodge when his foot slipped off of the brake pedal and onto the accelerator pedal, which caused the vehicle to collide into the McDonald's building. Damages to the vehicle were estimated at $1,300. Damages to the building were estimated at $5,000.

Luella Onnen Bauer

Luella Onnen Bauer, 85, of Fairbury, NE. passed away March 4, 2015 at Gardenside LTC in Fairbury. She was born February 10, 1930 at Hebron, NE. to Edward & Ida (Aufderheide) Bodtke. Survivors are Sons: Doyle Onnen & Wife Joan of York, NE., Neal Onnen & Wife Kay of Fairbury, Mark Onnen of Lincoln, 5 Grandchildren. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday March 7, 2015 at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairbury, with Pastor Charles Schmidt officiating. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 pm Friday March 6 @ Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home in Fairbury. Burial at the Grace Lutheran Cemetery-Gladstone, NE. Memorials to Family’s Choice. Auxiliary Meets
Schopp, Ewing, Nispel Unit 243 met February 24, 2015 for their regular meeting. The Legion and Auxiliary recited the Preamble and Pledge to the Flag.
President LaVon Wasserman called the meeting to order. Lois Bessler read the opening prayer. Eight members answered roll call. The minutes of the January meeting were read and approved. The treasurer’s report was given and approved.
A medallion for the grave of Marilyn Hagemeier will be purchased from her memorial money. The PIA will be paid for half of the cleaning expenses for the Community Center for the consignment sale.

Doris Margot Mitchell

Doris Margot Mitchell of Fairbury, NE the daughter of Ralph and Lieselotta (Bender) DeWald Jr. was born March 21, 1947 in Heidelberg, Germany.  She departed this life Sunday February 22, 2015 at St. Elizabeth Regional Medical Center in Lincoln, NE at the age of 67 years.
Doris grew up in the Tobias, NE area and graduated from Tobias High School with the class of 1965.  After graduation Doris attended Lincoln School of Commerce.   She then went to work at St. Elizabeth Region Medical Center in Lincoln as a medical transcriptionist.
In July of 1966 Doris was united in marriage to Gary Mitchell at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Tobias, NE.  This union was blessed with the birth of three children.

Optimist Club to Sponsor Speech Contest

Optimist Club to Sponsor Speech Contest-The Fairbury Optimist Club is encouraging area students to speak their minds about the topic of “How My Optimism Will Help Me Press on to Greater Achievements of the Future” as part of the Optimist International Oratorical Contest for 2015.
The Optimist Club will have qualified individuals judge the local students’ speeches based on content and presentation to determine the top girl and boy winners, who will receive a neck medallion and advance to the district level in Grand Island on April 11, for the opportunity to win $2,500, $500, or $250 college scholarships. If there are three or more contestants in the girl or boy division at the local level the first place winner will receive an additional $150 award.
Students attending public, parochial or home school under the age of 19 as of December 31, 2014 are eligible to participate. There is NO minimum age restriction.
