Aasen

As autumn gave way to the chill of early winter, a baby girl came into this world. On December 2, 1929, Frances Elizabeth Summers was born to Inez and Will Summers. She finished her earthly journey on June 7, 2015. Born at home on the family farm near Alexandria, NE, she and her older brother, Sam, grew up during the great depression. Life was not easy in what was known as “The Great Depression”: tough times, with the fall of the stock market, terrible droughts, dust storms and swarms of crop-destroying locusts. Tough times, but tough people, too.
Frances was one of the tough ones. Always a survivor, she managed to overcome health issues and operations, and grew to womanhood. She married Ralph C. Hoge and moved to a farm east of Powell, NE. While living there, they were blessed with four strong, good-hearted sons: Charles, Kenneth, Harold, and Roger.

Keep Your Children Safe in the Heat

Safe Kids, Fillmore, Gage, Jefferson, Saline and Thayer Coalition and Public Health Solutions are urging all families to make sure their children are not left in a car.  Currently, there have been 8 reported fatalities, across the United States, in 2015. Six of those deaths have occurred in June and three deaths this week alone.  “We certainly do not want any parent or loved one to experience that situation in our community,” expressed Sharon Vandegrift, Safe Kids Coalition member in Jefferson County.

Unfortunately, no community is immune to this kind of tragedy. Parents and caregivers can cut down the number of deaths and near misses by remembering to ACT.
