General Election Nearing

Early Voting applications will be published October 8, 15, 22, 2014 in the Fairbury Journal-News. Anyone who is a registered voter may fill this out and return to the County Clerk’s Office. If you do not have a copy of the application you may send in a signed letter of where you are registered and where you want the ballot sent.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Hope Crisis will be hosting several events to help not only draw support for victims of domestic violence but to help support the efforts of Hope Crisis.
Hope Crisis Center volunteers including youth from American Lutheran and United Methodist church have been going door to door to distribute yard signs to willing residents of Fairbury.
They will be holding a Candlelight Vigil Wednesday, October 1 on the courthouse lawn beginning at 7:30 pm.  Sunday, October 11 will be an active day for Hope Crisis, Fairbury’s Walmart will once again be hosting the stuff the van event titled  “Moving to Safety.” A van will be parked at Walmart and a list will be available asking  customers to show their support by purchasing supplies to help stuff the van.

Mary E. Holtz

Mary E. Holtz of Fairbury, NE. passed away on Sept. 2nd, 2014. Mary was born on Nov. 15, 1949 to Michael Luby and Irene Roode-Ackman. Mary attended St. Michael's Catholic School & Fairbury Jr. Sr. High School. After high school she graduated from Fairbury Junior College. In 1975 she married Michael Caroon. Together they had 5 children. In 2001 she remarried to Robert Holtz of Fairbury. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, Playing poker and watching Nebraska football.

Larry A. Leonard, 77, of Fairbury, NE. passed away September 27, 2014 in Fairbury, NE. He was born August 24, 1937 in Fairbury, NE.

Survivors are daughter, Shannon Schroeder and husband, Craig of Fairbury; son, Jay De Leonard of San Francisco, CA.; 4 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, sisters, Donna Bodamer of Kansas City, MO.; Jacquelyn Stephenson of Estes Park, CO.;

Marcellan Siegel

Marcellan Siegel,92, of Fairbury, NE., passed away Sept. 20,2014. Born in Diller on July 18, 1922, to George and Marie (Shipman) Mees, She attended and graduated from St. Michael's Catholic and Fairbury High schools.
A lifelong resident of Fairbury, she was employed by the Fairbury Windmill and Fairbury Livestock companies and, later, worked alongside her husband, Harold, in his auction and real estate business. After Harold passing, Marcellan continued to be active in her church.

Cyrus Henry Mussman, 95, passed away on Thursday, September 25, 2014 at Heritage Crossings in Geneva, NE. He was born to Henry Mussman and Emma Pfingston Mussman on January 18, 1919 on a farm near Tobias, NE. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church.

Diller Class of '49 Reunion

The Diller High School class of '49 met September 20 in Beatrice at Aunt Mary's to observe their graduation 65 years ago. After lunch they gathered at The Villa to visit.

Of the 28 class members five were unable to attend and twelve are deceased. Present were Verneal (Fasse) and Levi Dodge and Della (Meers) Knabe of Beatrice; Elaine(Baumfalk) Erdmenn of DeWitt; John and Elaine (Schnuelle) Patras of Elkhorn; June (Thompson) and Milton Vitosh of Odell; Dolores(Oltman) Genrich of Lincoln, Bill and Lucille Sapp of Ashland; Pauline (Weers) and Arlo Lindhorst of Marysville, KS; Ruby (Dauber) Morris of Blue Springs; Norma (Weers) and Eldean Banahan of Endicott; and Betty Hubka of Diller.
